Finding an English-Speaking Coach in Frankfurt: What to Look For
Jacqueline Klemke · 5 min read
When life abroad feels heavy – after a move, during a career change or in a relationship under strain – many expats start looking for support. Searching for help in a second language adds another hurdle. Here is what to look for when you want coaching in English in Frankfurt.
Coaching, counselling or therapy?
Coaching supports people who are basically well but stuck, overwhelmed or facing a decision or transition. If you are experiencing a mental illness, such as severe depression, psychotherapy is the right place to start – a good coach will tell you so.
Questions worth asking
Which qualifications and training does the coach have? Do they understand expat life and cross-cultural relationships? Can sessions take place in person, online or both? Are fees and packages transparent?
Just as important: does it feel easy to talk to this person? Fit is one of the strongest factors in whether coaching helps.
Why a systemic approach suits expat life
A move abroad affects your work, your partner, your children and your friendships at the same time. Systemic coaching looks at these connections rather than at a single problem, so that change starts where it really matters.
Most coaches offer a short introductory call. Use it to describe your situation and see whether the way of working suits you.
