Relationship Crisis: Understanding the Causes and Finding Each Other Again
Jacqueline Klemke · 7 min read
Almost every long relationship goes through crises. They feel threatening, but are often a sign that something wants to change. What matters is not whether a couple hits a crisis, but how they deal with it.
Common causes
Everyday stress and lack of time together, life transitions such as a new baby or a job change, unspoken expectations, breaches of trust or life goals drifting apart.
Patterns that keep couples stuck
A cycle often develops: one partner pushes for conversation, the other withdraws – and both feel misunderstood. Systemically, no one is solely "to blame"; the pattern sustains itself.
Once couples recognise the pattern together, there is room for new responses.
