Coaching or Therapy – Which Is Right for Me?

Jacqueline Klemke · 6 min read

Coaching and therapy both work through conversation, but they pursue different goals. Choosing well protects you and ensures you get the support you really need.

What coaching offers

Coaching is for psychologically stable people who want to work on a specific concern: a decision, a life transition, a role at work or questions in a relationship. The focus is forward-looking, on solutions and existing resources.

When therapy is the right path

Psychotherapy treats mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders or the effects of trauma. It is provided by licensed psychotherapists and is often covered by health insurance.

If you've felt very low for a long time, can barely manage daily life or have thoughts of suicide, therapy or medical help is the right path. In an acute crisis in Germany, the Telefonseelsorge is available around the clock on 0800 111 0 111.

An honest assessment

In the free introductory call we clarify together whether coaching suits your concern. If not, I'll tell you openly and suggest where to turn. Sometimes the two complement each other well.
