The children still need support, the parents are getting older and need help – and in between there's work and your relationship. Many people between 40 and 60 carry this double responsibility.
A quiet overload
Responsibility often grows gradually: first a doctor's appointment, then the shopping, then daily worry. Your own needs fade into the background – until exhaustion sets in.
Roles are shifting
When parents need help, roles reverse. This can revive old family themes, for instance between siblings. A systemic view helps to share tasks fairly and talk openly about expectations.
