What Does a Systemic Coach Do? Approach, Process and Benefits
Jacqueline Klemke · 7 min read
"Systemic" can sound abstract. The idea behind it is simple: people don't live in isolation but in relationships – with family, partners and colleagues. A systemic coach therefore looks not only at the problem, but at the connections in which it arises and can be resolved.
The stance: solution-, resource- and competence-focused
A systemic coach doesn't hand you ready-made answers. The assumption is that you are the expert on your own life and already have abilities to change your situation.
Appreciation, active listening and a non-judgemental attitude create the space in which new perspectives can emerge.
Typical methods
Circular questions ("What would your partner say if …?") open up other viewpoints. Constellations with figures make relationships visible. The miracle question shifts attention to what should be rather than what is missing.
We also work with scaling questions, resource maps and small experiments for everyday life.
How a session works
We start by clarifying your concern: what should be different at the end? Then we explore the situation together and develop hypotheses and ideas. Finally, you agree on a concrete next step.
Often just a few sessions bring noticeably more clarity – in person in Frankfurt or online.
